Lindsey + Ian | engagement!
Is it … too late to blog an engagement the day after the wedding? Let’s give it a go. We know how this ends…so let’s see a year ago, then you’ll be soo much more invested to see their wedding! Lindsey + Ian were my FIRST BOOKING of 2020, way back in March of 2019, and coincidentally, I just had my first booking of 2022 (!!) my first couples are always special to me. Enjoy seeing a glimpse into Lindsey + Ian’s engagement before I share some of their wedding that I shot yesterday! This session is a mix of film + digital, and man do I miss shooting film. With the pandemic, I’ve slowed way down + focused on digital, because, well, film is expensive. But as I start to regain my ground of where my business will be going forward, I’m beginning to feel that it might be ok to be a little excessive in my film spending and shoot some rolls here and there! stay tuned!

It’s hard to not start an engagement session post saying “I can’t wait for their wedding next March!” but, also, this is a moment. I really enjoy engagement sessions because it’s such a wonderful time for you, being photographed, to stop the grind of your daily life + actually celebrate your love for each other. Being engaged is a constant state of change + planning. Sometimes it’s just nice to be. BUT that being said, I can't wait for their spring wedding at Oak Grove! (also who does she look like!? she reminded me, though my camera of Chrissy Teigen!)

I love seasonal light, these take me right back to the late winter day we met for an engagement session, pre COVID! can’t wait to celebrate their first day of spring wedding at Jorgensen Farm’s Oak Grove!

If I write a goal to blog oh, let’s say, 20 of the recent weddings I’ve shot in the past two years here, does that count as accountability? hello? anyone out there?
For many a long time I’ve treated this blog as a place to show photos, and stick to the photos. I kind of want to go back to talking more about all the things I want to share with you. About why. About me. So here we go! As we approach this change of seasons, I find myself lamenting as I do with every change of seasons. The months go by too quickly to quantify the change that happens, but looking back over a whole season feels much more complete. Back in May!? How was that such a flash, when the world was fresh and everything feeling new and anticipatory with what summer would bring? And now here we are, and instead of feeling the optimism that comes with spring, I find myself looking at fall like a placeholder for the dread of winter to come. dramatic much? SOOOO as the eternal optimist would do, I’m challenging myself to look at things with fresh eyes + see the beauty beyond being stuck on IT IS GOING TO BE SO COLD AND DARK FOR SO LONG.
One of those things, from my business standpoint, is engagement season! I LOOOOVE that so many people get engaged over the holidays and jump right into selecting a venue + date + reaching out to vendors. I love emails that chronicle, in our very first meeting, love stories, and wishes for wedding days, and just simple hellos and connections over the internet.
Here’s an engagement from one of my 2020 weddings - I can’t wait to celebrate with Sara + Cameron. Like, when you are so awesome on just a random weekday, your wedding is going to be filled with greatness! Shot mostly film, canon 1V
Emily + Brian | engaged!
engagement session in the woods in summertime. shot on digital and film in Columbus Ohio
a quick + sweet engagement session from this summer (take me back, what I wouldn’t give to be unbearably hot like it was this day!) with Emily + Brian + their pups. shot on digital + film (with double exposed xmas lights // portrait 400)
Laura + Steven | engaged
I get to this time of year and I'm like, I HAVE TO SHOOT ALL THE FILM BECAUSE THE SUN WON'T BE HERE FOR A FEW MONTHS. And, in this case, the sun had already taken a break on this freezing, grey, Ohio fall day. Went for it anyways, and shot all film (ok, I backed up with 100 digital photos, just. in . case) for Laura + Steven's engagement session. Here are a few of my favorites!
(color is Fuji 400 h + b&w is hp5 pushed 2 by the darkroom lab)
and, just for some info here: I only have like fiiiiive maybe six more weddings I'll take on for 2018.
